“ In the hush of a breath, awaken the whispers of the Valley of the Wind, where I cradled for you a dandelion, poised for your gentle exhale...”

Blow…

Prototyping & Testing

The main problem I encountered in the design process is the selection of materials. I am using an accelerometer to detect the movement of dandelions. Thus, how to create a stem that can be easily blown by people has become the primary purpose of my testing.

After determining its basic mechanism, my biggest challenge was how to make the signifier (dandelion) vivid and imaginative, so that people could instantly know through this signifier that the required interaction action is to blow. In the end, I used cotton thread to mimic the seeds of the dandelion.

Electronics

The sensor I used is an accelerometer, to enhance its sensitivity so that even a gentle blow from a person can be detected. For the output, I chose two neopixel rings because they are bright enough to produce a sufficient light effect even during the day.
